734 West Forest Addition

Here's the story…

When our clients Ken and Kelley decided to join their families into a single household it meant accommodations for six kids, plus two adults – a la Brady Bunch!

While function is the driving force of the project, Ken and Kelley’s dream of a contemporary home was also important. The traditional exterior of the home is re-designed as clean and contemporary while respecting the traditional Memorial neighborhood. A striking addition, while barely visible from the street, creates a two story vaulted space bringing natural light into the center of the home. Concrete, steel and bamboo are the palate for the interiors of the project from the custom designed stair and bookcases to the kitchen island that seats — six kids.

The kid’s bedrooms and baths are carefully designed to create equitable spaces for each. Five bedrooms and three baths, along with a TV den and study flex space; give the four girls and twin boys (six kids) room for privacy, projects and gaming with friends.

When we presented the idea of an upstairs master suite, our clients were delighted! The serene loft like space boasts a 14’ sloped ceiling. French doors and large north windows bathe the space in soft natural light. Custom bookshelves line the stair and sitting room; creating an intimate library away from the six kids below.

Many thanks to Ken and Kelley and their six kids for allowing RD Architecture to be a part of their journey!
